architecture for humanity.

Culture, Design: architecture for humanity.

I saw this guy speak once. He had a strong english accent, looked down at the floor when talking and had the uncanny ability to hold your attention. His name was Cameron Sinclair, 32 and last year was a joint winner of the TED prize for his work with his company, Architecture for Humanity. His wish upon being granted the $100 000 kitty was to create an online platform that utilised open source software to allow the formation of a network of architects, urban and rural town planners, community workers and community members world wide the opportunity to work together for the common good. The beta version of this platform has just been released and I urge not only architects but also people who would like to learn more about open source and creative commons, check it out. This idea is big and it has become tangible. If you watch his talk at TED you will know what I mean. I’ve also been meaning to read his book ‘Design Like you Give a Damn’, I saw it at Cherry Blossom the other day in Paddo. My birthday’s in July…

  • This book is beyond inspiring. The diversity of work and the people showcased in this book blew me away. You will need a few quite hours to devour the content.
