For those seeking some time at the beach, but cursing the grey days of late; take heart for there is lots to do at the beach this June. The Noosa Longweekend combines some of the best indoor activities; culture, conversation and culinary delights in a magical beachside locale.
The event has been running for six years and is the brainchild of playwright and Noosa local, David Williamson. The event brings together literary greats, musicians, artists, chefs and community members in a ten-day celebration of culture. The program is diverse. *Highlight* Clive James is in town. He and the ABC’s Kerry O’Brien will be facilitating a lunch on Saturday 16 June, titled “The Dilemma of the Australian Expatriate.” Clive and Kerry are teaming up again on the afternoon of Sunday 17 June to talk about his new book “Cultural Amnesia and How it Grew.” The ABC’s Insiders program host Barrie Cassidy is also presenting a session. Apart from my favourite ABC-centric sessions, the program also includes art exhibitions, an Italian ‘festa’, theatre, film and local tours. The Noosa Longweekend runs from 15 to 24 June 2007. Check out the program online. Probably no need to pack your bikinis.
