Two of us are up at a reasonable hour, the third one sleeps on. We take a leisurely, if not slightly scruffy, wander down the road to the newsagent. It’s a glossy mag for my housemate and the weekend paper for me. We shuffle home and watch music videos in between mouthfuls of toast and pondering over our reading material. And so, my Saturday morning ritual unravels.
It is far from arresting but it’s something that I have come to enjoy about the weekend. And the longer I live in Brisbane, the more that my small weekend rituals start to become an enjoyable moment in time each week. There are the Sunday afternoon movies and the Friday night dinners. There are the DVD evenings and the pub missions.
Last Sunday, my housemate and I stumbled across a ritual to add to our weekend. Standing on a balcony with a glass of wine in hand, laughing and chatty as the sun went down over the Brisbane River and the day, this is one routine we have vowed to implement starting next week.
What are your weekend rituals?
