Chick lit is loaded with sass and makes sense of the crazy world women find themselves in. Typified by romantic comedies, adult mysteries and embarrassing ‘Bridget Jones’ moments, chick lit and its writers are endeavouring to go beyond the foreseen realm of women’s literature. Delving into dirty behaviour and secret women’s business, five Brisbane women will have a good ole girlie gossip as part of this year’s Writing the Fringe Festival (the sexier and naughtier little-sister event to The Brisbane Writers Festival). Aptly named, Hot Bitches, this panel includes award winning poet Mandy Beaumont, editor of The BURN Writers Collective Cathy Vallance, unwarranted sex writer Sommer Tothill, founder of Eatbooks inc. and erotic writer Krissy Kneen and film technician, traveller, fashionista, bartender, writer and advertising executive Zacharey Jane. This panel is set to spark debate about current women’s literature and how it’s moving away from cliche ‘funny love’ scenarios into brash and unadulterated adventures of modern women who aren’t afraid to ‘get their girl on’. Sip afternoon cocktails at Sling Bar in West End from 4:00 pm and listen to the panel discuss what women talk about and more. This is a great chance for young women and men to get to know the faces behind some of Brisbane’s best literary works and organisations.
