What a powerful ad. It’s hard to believe that more people don’t recognise how directly responsible we are for destroying the habitats of innocent animals. Aside from the responsibility we have to future generations to protect the planet, we also have one to the beautiful animals that inhabit it. Thanks Carl!

I agree Mikki. Thanks Adz for sending it to me. It’s a very powerful!

It’s an awful ad – anthropomorphism at its misleading worst. It is exactly this kind of wrong-headed claptrap that puts people off the global warming debate. We need to fix the problem urgently but not to stop animals killing themselves!

Do you not believe global warming effects the animal kingdom Pete? If they had a voice what do you think they would say about global warming? I agree we need to fix the problem urgently and I take this ad as communicating exactly that. If you subscribe to Gaia – the biosphere and the physical components of the Earth are coupled to form a complex interacting system that maintains the preferred climatic conditions on Earth – then you will understand the animals are not viewed as objects but are a critical part of our living system. I’m interested that you think it puts people off the debate and obviously you are one of them – I certainly wasn’t. Thanks for your comment.

For some reason the video really wound me up – my original comment was pretty strong wasn’t it!! I agree with the message I just think that that this sort of slick, almost Hollywood style, ad dumbs down the debate to a ridiculous level. Animals don’t commit suicide, animals don’t talk, most don’t even think – as we know it. I also find it hypocrtical that anyone who eats meat should be upset by images of animals dying. They need protecting not farming.

Definitely wound me up :) I’m supportive of all forms of climate change messages that gain greater awareness for it in a positive way. I would disagree with you on the fact that animals don’t talk or think. Check out this interesting video on crows, or dolphins. Or read some Peter Singer or Jane Goodall. I understand your point on people who eat meat. I am someone who eats a little meat in my diet and yes I do get upset by images of animals dying. I am consciously trying to reduce my intake.

It’s a great shock tactic which has the potential to either motivate or stupefy people. Pete, I take your point on anthropomorphism (a word I will never able to say eloquently), but often it takes a creative approach to jolt people into action. Positivity v negativity in approaching a situation however can reap alternative and disproportionate outcomes.
