In the name of research, many tradespeople such as plumbers and radio operators have made the pilgrimage to Antarctica to assist in the exploration of the continent. In her exhibition, Down South, at Brisbane Powerhouse from May 9–29, photographer Susan Gordon-Brown documents working life in Antarctica and reveals the lonely side of arctic life.
