No matter how old you get, the imagination will always crave the magic of a fairytale. Following its sell-out premiere season in 2011, Queensland’s Dead Puppet Society returns to La Boite from August 11 to September 1 to present a refreshed and more embellished performance of its adult fairytale, The Harbinger. Using puppetry to ignite the sense of magic and play that comes so naturally to children, the story is centred around an old man hiding away in an old bookshop. After suffering a series of devastating losses, and watching his busy city become a pit of misery, the old man clings to his memories as a source of comfort. Upon the arrival of a young girl seeking protection, the old man relives the highs and lows of his past and, in the process, discovers a way to change his city. Reality drips away as a magical world is conjured through a combination of puppetry, performance, animation and some clever stage trickery.
