This is the Badeschiff (bathing ship) in Berlin, Germany and I think Brisbane should get one of those pools! The project started as part of the “con_con: constructed connection” exhibition (in 2002) that examined different kinds of connections people have with their urban environment. Berlin artist Susanne Lorenz and her partners on the project, the architecture firm AMP, wanted the pool to reintroduce Berliners to an aspect of their river that has been lost.
‘Con_con’ generated 12 creative proposals and was a platform for discussion about the significance and function of bridges, in the structural as well as sociological sense. There were many themes and conversations that seem highly relevant to Brisbane since new bridges have always been planned. These bridge connections (Newstead to Bulimba, CBD to Kangaroo Point etc) were reiterated in last year’s “Smart Cities:rethinking the city centre” report.

I hope we get a pool on our river too…
I think we should get one too! We are the subtropical city of Australia … it makes perfect sense!
