The recent pairing of Madonna and Justin Timberlake may have raised an eyebrow or two, but there are some musical collaborations that, at a mere hypothetical mention, incite an undeniable curiosity. What do you think would be the auditory result if you fused the genre-defying sounds of Santogold with the glass-cutting vocals of The Strokes’ frontman Julian Casablancas and the production genius of N.E.R.D? Think you could imagine it? Iconic shoebrand Converse certainly could and it recently enlisted the trio to create an original music track in celebration of the brand’s 100th birthday. The result? ‘My Drive Thru’ – a catchy, refreshing track that takes a few listens to warm to, after which it becomes irresistible. Recognising the fact that some of the past century’s greatest music artists – across a spectrum of musical styles – have donned Chuck Taylors on stage and in videos, Converse sought to bring together some of these artists to create a track that would bridge their styles. ‘My Drive Thru’ is available for free digital download from the Converse website, which will also soon act as launching platform for emerging artists. How do you rate the collaboration?
