there’s a hole in my bucket

Organisers of Sydney Design 08 have created a concept that has seen a resurgence of the humble yellow bucket. As a symbol of design, the bucket part of the There’s a Hole in My Bucket project will be used to highlight something that is badly designed (or something that has potential) in and around Sydney. Organisers of There’s a Hole in My Bucket have distributed 100 yellow buckets (with a hole) to various locations and designers in Sydney. The keepers of the buckets then need to go to their chosen location and take a photo that best represents what they consider bad design – aka ‘the hole in the bucket’. Sonny Day and Biddy Maroney are graphic designers in Sydney and work under the name Webuyyourkids. They have used their bucket to show the perils of the design discipline they work in (gig posters) and the ‘there one day, gone the next’ scenario they encounter all the time. They are quoted as saying “We watch all that time, money and energy go into something so fleeting, praying someone got the message before the council came and tore it all down.” Have a look at the site and its clever web application to see what some other designers are thinking.
