Contrary to the suicide bombers and sniper themed news reports we are so-often bombarded with on news channels, Gaza Sderot, an online documentary, profiles two war-ravaged Israel/Palestinian border towns, Sderot (Israel) and Gaza (Palestine), with twelve featured characters going about their daily lives. One of these is Avi Vaknin a 32 year-old musician who has just published his first single. Also from Avi’s hometown is Daniele Mordechai who is a 16 year-old high-school student and actress. On the Gaza side of the screen, pharmacist Amjad Dawahidy tells of how he faces difficulties in providing medicine when the border is closed. The brave story of Abu Khalil,an ambulance driver, is also told – he loves his job despite the dangerous situations he lives through. This documentary reports on men, women and children living under difficult conditions and how even with the threat of bombings and attacks, people do keep on working, loving and dreaming; they live life in spite of everything. To document this will to live, the producers of Gaza Sderot, have profiled six people from Gaza and six people from Israel. A new story of each character is revealed every week and viewers will be able to follow their stories intimately for 10 weeks. Gaza Sderot is an original project broadcast by Arte.tv, the official site of ARTE, the French-German cultural television station, in co-production with an Israeli team – Alma Films/Trabelsi. This online documentary will no doubt appeal to various audiences and open up our preconceived ideas about life in these war-torn areas.
