Take a moment to go outside today and look at the sky. This shot was taken this morning on my way home from a shoot, the sky was so inspiring, I just had to stop and shoot. Clouds are so cool.

For those who like camping, this place is a must, although, try getting a place before 1st Jan … good luck! Lake Arragan is nestled in behind the sand dunes of the Northern NSW Coast and offers a variety of campsites from lakeside sites surrounded by paperbarks to cliff-top perches with amazing ocean views. And although the name sounds like something from Middle Earth, the only creatures you will have to contend with are the hundreds of roos.

My weekend was spent perched on top of some property just outside of Dayboro, where I was privileged to witness one of the most beautiful, yet destructive storms to hit the Brisbane region in years. I wasn’t really aware of the destruction until this afternoon driving back through Ferny Grove and The Gap. I was completely awestruck as we drove past hundreds of trees uprooted and strewn across houses, schools and roads. Another reminder of the immense and unstoppable power of nature.

I recently had a discussion with a mate about the difference between sunset and sunrise from the perspective of light. If you were placed in a completely foreign environment and were not aware of the time, would there be any characteristics of light that would lead you to assume (or know) that it was morning or evening? If we simply sat  and watched, we would see it getting lighter or darker. So we came up with a little experiment to test our powers of perception. I have created a gallery of sunrise and sunset images that I have shot over the years.  There are 16 images in total, have a look at each one and see if you can tell if it’s morning or evening. Enjoy!

This coming Thursday evening sees the launch of Designer Fight Club at the Zoo in Fortitude Valley. The first event in this bash-em-up-click-and-drag feast of design is the student bout. This is followed up next month with the pros coming out to battle. Both events have some awesome prizes up for grabs with Major Sponsor Nextbyte providing CS3 suite+Wacom  for the winner of the student event and a 20″ iMac with bells and whistles for the pro winner. Yesterday I stumbled upon an amazing company called Passion Pictures. These guys are responsible for some truly cutting edge and inspirational animation and video clips. After spending some time devouring their website I ventured home with camera in hand, inspired and feeling creative. This, however, didn’t seem to quench my creative thirst and I found myself today exploring the joys of stop motion photography and sketching.

Yet again, Boreen Point at Lake Cootharaba has provided me with some beautiful light and reflection. Sunrise Easter Monday… who wouldn’t get out of their grave to witness this!

I ventured out to Kunungra on Sunday for a little 2 wheeled adrenalin action. The folks at Logan Moto-Trials Club put on an open day for anyone interested in checking out what trials riding is all about. One of the biggest differences between these 2 wheel funsters and other conventional motorbikes is the seat… or rather, lack of! And of course, this kind of action is an ideal opportunity to capture some interesting images!

Ben Johnson (Joseph Mark) and Amber Marshall (Wolfbyte) take a moment to ponder the heavens at the recent Sounds Boutique extravaganza at the Tivoli. If you’re looking for a bit of entrepreneurial goodness this weekend, you might bump into these cats at the Do Well conference at the Brisbane Powerhouse.

Saturday night saw a feast of bizarre light critters wreaking havoc among the streets of Paddington. In this latest series of images, I explore the possibilities of painting with light; certainly not a new concept, but one that’s heaps of fun and limited only by the imagination.

One of my simplest pleasures in life is the observation of light. I love stumbling across something cleverly illuminated that invites me to take a step closer and look. Even more pleasing is when I happen to have my camera handy to explore exposure and composition in relation to that light… delightful!

What an impressive show! And LOUD! My heart was racing with the chaos of creation as these bolts blasted from the heavens above…so cool. Check out some more pics…
