The rules? The artist may only use one sheet of paper. The results? An incredible display of intricate and delicate works that force jaws to drop, heads to tilt left and mouses to click the ‘forward’ button so you can share with your friends, the entries for an art contest at the Hirshhorn Modern Art Gallery in Washington DC. Wow – all this can be done with one piece of paper. For most, our paper prowess didn’t extend beyond the paper-plane or for those more advanced – an origami paper crane. However this DC art contest reminds us just how far out-of-the-box that an artist can venture, as they take something as ‘everyday’ and straightforward as a sheet of A4 white paper and convert it into creative and extremely clever art. I find the creativity in these pieces phenomenal. I have always believed creativity is not about having the money to do something, rather the ability to create from very little. These are beautiful.
