If this is your first contact with map magazine, then we should really start telling you what map magazine is. Although, perhaps it’s easier to tell you what is isn’t. Firstly, it’s not a map – or a street directory, or any other form of cartographical tool – map stands for Motivated Australian People. On that note, map is not a gossip magazine, a magazine filled with social pages or ‘how-to-snag-a-man’ tips. Nor is it like an episode of Ugly Betty or like the movie The Devil Wears Prada. We do ask that you are not as temperamental as our dishwasher, have a positive attitude, love of all things pop culture, posses some previous design experience as well as the ability to source purple cows at short notice. As a map magazine graphic design intern you will experience all aspects of magazine production, including ad creatives, web design, layouts, photography and creative concept. So what is map magazine? Ok – we’ll get to the point. map magazine is a publication that has changed Brisbane’s inner city media landscape. Launched in September 1999, map magazine is Brisbane’s only free monthly lifestyle magazine focusing on the latest fashion, design, arts, entertainment, green, habitat, pop culture with a conscience and global thinking. Restoring the values of community in Brisbane, map magazine focuses on local, national and international ‘dreamers’ and celebrates their journeys in life. This could be anyone from a farmer who has grown the biggest and freshest tomatoes, an Australian fashion designer, or a scientist who has discovered the meaning of life. map magazine aims to spread positive news that inspires. This is an unpaid internship lasting for four weeks from February 2–27 in 2009. On the upside, you will be rewarded with an incredible work experience in an industry you are passionate about, pats on the back and high fives, new friends and endless cups of coffee. To apply visit www.vraw.com.au before Sunday October 12.
